Outside body

The council has a statutory duty to:

·         Advise Portsmouth City Council (PCC) on matters connected with religious worship in community schools and in foundation schools which do not have a religious character.

·         Advise PCC on teaching methods, choice of materials and teacher training in religious education and collective worship.

·         Produce an annual report.

·         Require PCC to review the locally agreed syllabus for religious education at least every five years.

This was formed under the Education Act 1996.
