Council response

Dear Lead Petitioner,

Petition for Zebra crossing in Old Portsmouth

Thank you for the submission of your petition for the installation of a new Zebra crossing at High Street, Old Portsmouth. Over the past year, officers within the Transport team have been working with the local community via representatives of neighbourhood groups on the production of an area-wide study for Old Portsmouth.

A working group was set up in 2015 involving Ward members, the Transport Portfolio holder and council officers along with representatives of the Old Portsmouth &
Gunwharf Quays Neighbourhood Forum, Friends of Old Portsmouth Association, Spice Island Association and residents of St Nicholas Street/Ponying's Place.
Representatives of Portsmouth Grammar School, St Jude's School and the Police were also involved. As a result of this group, we were able to secure some funding to
undertake a focussed study on the issues raised within the working group, one of the key issues being the lack of crossing facilities at High Street.

The report has required a significant amount of work to assemble existing evidence and to collect new data including traffic and pedestrian surveys. The report is now at a draft stage and is being considered by members of the working group. This is very much a co-development project and will incorporate feedback from the local neighbourhood groups to inform the final recommendations. The final report will then be presented to the Transport portfolio holder for formal recognition before looking for funding opportunities to progress the schemes that will be put forward to address issues identified in the report. The draft includes proposals for several alterations to crossings around the Old Portsmouth area.

Any of your co-sponsors who wish to review and comment on the draft report should do so through one of the above mentioned neighbourhood groups. If there are any
issues with this, I would be happy to answer any questions.

Thank you again for your petition and interest in Old Portsmouth, please do not hesitate to contact the Network Management team again in future should you have
any further enquiries.

Yours sincerely
