Many people arrive in Portsmouth seeking sanctuary, fleeing from persecution, war and trauma. Many are temporarily housed in hotels by the Home Office or placed in temporary shared housing. They may have few resources and a lack of opportunity to engage with local communities. If they had better transportation choices, they could attend such activities as English lessons and social activities across a wider geography. This would support their integration into our lively city. This petition requests that Portsmouth City Council work with local bus companies to make a FREE bus pass available for all asylum seekers and their children for use across the city. We need to be a city of welcome and of sanctuary. We call upon the city leaders to accept this petition and make every effort to make ALL feel welcome and able to participate in their local community activities.
