Allow dogs on all southsea beaches during summer

We the undersigned petition the council to (1000 characters): Remove the restrictions stopping dogs from being allowed on the southsea beaches between the Royal Marines statue and Southsea Castle from the 30th April to the 30th September.

With very little options in southsea the favourite place to walk dogs is the commons, but with that being used more and more for events such as festivals it’s becoming an increasingly difficult place to walk dogs. More frequently now I find broken glass, food waste and litter on the commons and foot paths in southsea which makes it very dangerous for dogs. The other incredible public area of southsea is of course the beach, but this currently has restrictions stating dogs are not allowed during the summer months. I propose that this be lifted so dogs are allowed on the beach all year round. The arguments for these restrictions are that ‘dogs create mess’ and banning dogs makes the beach more ‘family friendly’. To which I ask that you simply compare the litter created by humans in public areas of southsea to the tiny amount of dog waste. And to the idea that dogs being allowed somewhere stops it being family friendly I ask how many families do you know who own a dog? Families with dogs should not have to worry about leaving their dog at home/ finding a dog sitter/ going to far ends of Eastney beach just to enjoy a beach day. Many families opt to go to the beaches near south parade pier due to the fact there are lifeguards, shops and restaurants making it perfect for a family day out but as someone who grew up in a family with dogs we always had to travel miles out of the way to go somewhere they were allowed. I think families shouldn’t have to do this. They should be able to go, as a family, with their dog, to any area of southsea beach.
