Purpose

To highlight the findings of the Old Portsmouth Area Traffic Study.

 

To seek approval to further develop identified highway interventions and

conduct a review of related council policy as discussed in the study report.

 

RECOMMENDED that the Cabinet Member for Traffic & Transportation:

 

1.      Notes the contents of this report;

2.      Agrees the recommendations made in the study report (see section 5);

3.      Delegates authority to the Assistant Director for Transport to determine the highway interventions to be advanced for future funding bids in line with the recommended schemes in the study report.

Minutes:

Steven Flynn, Principal Traffic & Development Planning Engineer introduced the report.

 

Mr Mike Dobson made a deputation broadly in support of the application which can be viewed here.

 

In response to questions from Councillors, Mr Flynn and Paul Darlow, Traffic & Network Manager clarified the following points:

 

Information regarding what priority is given to reports of near-misses when assessing the roundabout will be sent to Councillors after the meeting.

 

The majority of other roundabouts had either undergone substantial work regarding safety or 'cyclists beware' signs had been erected.  The sign was on this roundabout.

 

Stakeholders included: Friends of Old Portsmouth Association, Old Portsmouth & Gunwharf Residents' Association, Spice Island Residents' Association, St Jude's School, Portsmouth Grammar School, Police Community Service Officers, the cathedral and Ward Councillors.
