Colette Hill introduced the report on behalf of Roy Goulding, Community Safety Manager.

Councillor Hunt reported that residents living near Alexandra Park are pleased that the park is now almost complete CCTV coverage.

Councillor Gemma New noted that CCTV was a good idea to reduce anti-social behaviour and crime.  She requested that the possibility of expanding coverage to other areas including Paulsgrove be investigated.

Councillor Corkery recognised the important role that CCTV plays in deterring and detecting anti-social behaviour and crime; however he noted it was important to balance human rights and privacy.  He requested that a link to the annual report be on camera use be provided.

Councillor Hunt noted that the technology was becoming less expensive and more effective as time passes.  He also stated that a proportionate response to anti-social incidents was key and that CCTV provision encouraged more freedom for people due to their reduced fear of crime.
