Westover Road - School Crossing Improvements pdf icon PDF 276 KB

The report by the Director of Regeneration is to consider responses to the public consultation on proposal to implement improvements to the Westover Primary School (Westover Road) school crossing patrol site.

RECOMMENDED that the Cabinet Member for Traffic and Transportation approves the implementation of two 3m wide dropped kerbs on each side of Westover Road, outside number 63 Westover Road and next to the junction with Northover Road.

Decision:

The Cabinet Member for Traffic and Transportation approved the implementation of two 3m wide dropped kerbs on each side of Westover Road, outside number 63 Westover Road and next to the junction with Northover Road.

Minutes:

Pam Turton, Assistant Director, Transport, presented the report of the Director of Regeneration. The report set out the proposal for a small scale scheme to help improve safety for school children, through the creation of a straight crossing point.  The response to the consultation had shown 71% support for the scheme.

Councillor Bosher reported the further receipt of a written representation in support of the proposal, which had been circulated to the spokespersons.

Councillor Chowdhury supported the recommendation to increase safety for children in the locality.

Councillor Stagg fully supported the proposal, being familiar with the location which was a difficult position for the school crossing patrolman to safety assist children, so this scheme would be beneficial.

Councillor Bosher was aware of the representations regarding the small loss of parking spaces but felt that this needed to be balanced with the priority of safety for pupils attending the school, so supported the recommendation.

DECISION: The Cabinet Member for Traffic and Transportation approved the implementation of two 3m wide dropped kerbs on each side of Westover Road, outside number 63 Westover Road and next to the junction with Northover Road.
