Apologies for Absence & Declarations of Interest

Minutes:

Apologies for absence had been received on behalf of Councillor Kimberly Barrett, Councillor Charlotte Gerada and Councillor Benedict Swann.

 

There were no declarations of interest.

126.

Deputations from the Public under Standing Order No 24.

Deputations by members of the public may be made on any item where a decision is going to be taken. The request should be made in writing to the contact officer (james.harris@portsmouthcc.gov.uk) by 12 noon of the working day before the meeting (so Monday 11 December 2023  for this meeting), and must include the purpose of the deputation (for example, for or against the recommendations). Email requests are accepted.

The Lord Mayor advised that no deputation requests had been received.

Admission to the Roll of Honorary Aldermen and Alderwomen - Rob New

In the light of the provisions of Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972, and by virtue of Council Minute 191/06, to consider a proposal to confer the title of Honorary Alderman on Rob New, a former Member of the City Council.

 

(The Act provides that the Council may, by a resolution passed by not less than two thirds of the Members voting thereon at a meeting of the Council specifically convened for the purpose with notice of the object, confer the title of Honorary Alderman/Alderwoman on persons who have, in the opinion of the Council, rendered long, eminent, and outstanding service.)

Minutes:

The Lord Mayor advised that the motion to admit Rob New as an honorary alderman would need to be passed by not less than two thirds of the members voting.

Proposed by Councillor Simon Bosher

Seconded by Councillor Lewis Gosling

 

That the title of honorary alderman be conferred on Rob New, a former member of Portsmouth City Council.

 

The proposer of the motion gave a short speech in support of the motion.

 

Following a vote, it was:

 

RESOLVED that the title of honorary alderman be conferred on Rob New and that a certificate confirming this decision be presented to him at a future city council meeting.

Admission to the Roll of Honorary Aldermen and Alderwomen - Lynne Stagg

In the light of the provisions of Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972, and by virtue of Council Minute 191/06, to consider a proposal to confer the title of Honorary Alderwoman on Lynne Stagg, a former Lord Mayor and Member of the City Council.

 

(The Act provides that the Council may, by a resolution passed by not less than two thirds of the Members voting thereon at a meeting of the Council specifically convened for the purpose with notice of the object, confer the title of Honorary Alderman/Alderwoman on persons who have, in the opinion of the Council, rendered long, eminent, and outstanding service
